Engineering

Description:

Engineers build and design the things that make our world go around; this could be anything like aeroplanes to buildings. This hugely diverse field can be split up in to seven sub-categories, aerospace, automotive, metals, electrical equipment, electronics, marine maintenance and mechanical engineering. This Apprenticeship covers roles in a range in these sub-sectors.

The sort of work you will do on this Apprenticeship will depend on your employer. Engineering Apprentices will generally learn to take on an operator role in a certain area of engineering. This involves anything from assembling a car’s engine to installing telecommunications systems. Most of the duties will involve the maintenance of equipment and machinery.

Through the Advanced Apprenticeship you could become a skills craftsperson (skilled in practical trades, like fitting or machinery) or a technician (involved in matters and problem solving).

Both Apprenticeships will begin by learning about safety at work, how to communicate technical information and indentifying engineering equipment.

Working in this field requires a good head for figures and IT literacy. You will also need a good written and verbal communications, being a team player is also very essential.
