STLS (Support Teaching & Learning in Schools)
| Description: | This Apprenticeship is about providing support in a classroom. As teachers are not the only ones who make a difference into the schools learning. Learning support staff, such as a Teaching Assistant, who plays a vital role in classrooms by making sure the students are getting the most out of their lessons. They work with teachers to carry out duties like the preparation for lessons, working with big or small groups or individuals an allowing the teacher to concentrate on the teaching their lesson. Some Learning Support Staff specialise in music or special needs. As an Apprentice you will work close with the teacher supervising you. Your duties may vary, depending on how the teacher has set up their lesson, you will help to plan their lessons and handle day-to-day classroom activities. But you could also find yourself supervising an arts and crafts activity, helping out with trips or even reading to the class. The Advances Level Apprenticeship has more responsibility; you could help to plan, evaluate and carry out a wide range of learning activities for the children. You will work alongside the teacher to support classroom activities and work alone with individuals or groups of students. It is a good stepping stone to getting a Foundation Degree or to get Higher Level Teaching Assistant training |
